at the risk of demystifying the creative process i produced some video of a painting progression. the idea, (from the beginning), was that i would paint the painting from march 16 to april 16 while recording episodes for publication to my substack journal.
the video production was planned that i would record a voice over of my decisions and thoughts that take place while painting.
while exploring i discover little stories. and decide how to bring them into the image. some of the discoveries and decisions i make well before i get to rendering the item. some decisions sacrifice earlier renderings to the completion of a grander effect.
i completed three videos during the project. i lost interest in the video production during the month executing the painting. while reviewing the day's video shots, i realized how boring watching painting is, and i had stopped speaking while working 'because i planned to add the voice later.
i chickened out of recording the voice over telling the stories of discovery.
i rendered the video at a faster rate, and chose some music to go with the action.
by april 16 i lost all confidence in the idea of posting it to my journal.
first, the length of recordings could potentially be 90 hrs. or more. just because i enjoy painting for hrs. at a time, it is unlikely you will enjoy watching it.
second, the idea of explaining my choices and interpreting the story or meaning for each item lost its appeal, so the voice over did not get made .
